Camp Counselor:

COUNSELOR POSITION OVERVIEW:

If you know somebody who has worked at a summer camp before, ask them if they loved it. Chances are, they will tell you it changed their life! Being a camp counselor is exciting because your job is to talk, play, explore, and remember what the world looks like from a child’s point of view! A reminder of that perspective can genuinely change how you return to school or work at the end of the summer. The experience is a gift that you get to keep the rest of your life. It changes you forever!


At Camp Loughridge, our staff are assigned one of two roles each week and they perform those roles Monday through Friday. The leadership then reassigns roles for the next week, taking into consideration staff preferences. The roles are:

COUNSELOR

Key Points Include:

Spend the week with your tribe Lead Bible studies
Work with a co-counselor Offer encouragement
Participate in activities with campers Provide guidance to campers
Be responsible for safety Support other staff

ACTIVITY LEADER

Key Points Include:

Teach camp activities Assist counselors with tribe
Provide activity supervision Offer encouragement
Model excitement and positivity Set up and serve lunch
Help Head Counselors Support other staff

Important things to know:

  • We hire counselors and activity staff ages 17+.
  • The day begins at 8am and ends between 5:30 and 6pm.
  • Staff are compensated with a salary, daily hot lunches and snacks, staff t-shirt, and after-hours staff fellowship.
  • Weekend work is not required, though some administrative work is necessary away from camp (e.g. completing character awards).
  • Staff are hired to work full sessions, with preference given to staff who can work all summer.
  • Staff training is REQUIRED (May 27th – 30th).
  • There is one REQUIRED overnight during Staff Training on the 29th-30th.
  • Staff Training is where you’ll learn how to lead each activity and manage a tribe.
  • Opportunities to work other Camp Loughridge events will be available.

Lifeguard position overview:

Working at a summer camp is an unforgettable experience, and being a camp lifeguard is no exception! This role goes beyond just overseeing the water- it creates a safe, fun, and encouraging environment where campers can build confidence and enjoy every moment in a safe environment. Along the way, you'll gain valuable leadership skills, from lasting friendships, and develop a strong sense of responsibility that will stay with you long after summer ends. It's an opportunity to grow, make a difference, and create memories that will last a lifetime!


At Camp Loughridge, lifeguards can take on two different roles based on their availability and the Camp's needs. Camp Lifeguards work full-time, Monday through Friday, ensuring the safety of campers at both the pool and lake throughout the week. In addition, we offer Event Lifeguard positions, which are part-time roles covering evening and weekend event shifts. Event Lifeguard shifts are assigned by leadership based on staff availability and time preferences. Both roles provided a valuable and rewarding experience, allowing lifeguards to develop their skills while creating a safe and enjoyable environment for campers and guests.

Camp Lifeguard

Conduct swim test Enforce safety guidelines

Event Lifeguard

Key Points Include:

Respond to water emergencies Enforce facility rules
Operate Camp store Monitor pool and lake activities
Provide Customer Service Work evening & weekend events
Conduct swim test as needed Maintain aquatics center

Important things to know:

  • We hire lifeguards ages 16+
  • A valid Red Cross lifeguard certification is REQUIRED to work. If you do not have a VAILD certification at the time of application, we will help you obtain a certification.
  • For Camp Lifeguards, the day begins at 8am and ends between 5:30 and 6pm.
  • Camp Lifeguards are compensated with a salary, daily hot lunches and snacks, staff t-shirt, swimsuit and after-hours staff fellowship.
  • Event Lifeguards are compensated with an hourly rate
  • Camp Lifeguards are hired to work full sessions, with preference given to staff who can work all summer
  • Event Lifeguards are hired to work the season, with preference given to those with the most availability on evenings and weekends
  • For Camp Lifeguards, Staff training is REQUIRED (May 27-30)
  • For Event Lifeguards AND Camp Lifeguards, orientation is REQUIRED (May 19) as well as an In-Service training every month
  • Multiple dates will be given to obtain your required In-Service training hours (2 hours a month per Red Cross Standard)
